CPAP full face masks are designed to fit a clean shaven face for a leak free fit. Short stubble can cause the cpap mask to not fit correctly thereby allowing leaks to form.
Male cpap patients, especially those whose five o’clock shadow gets really deep, should consider shaving before retiring for the evening.
CPAP cleaning supplies should be used every morning to keep the mask clean. Cleaning the cpap mask also aids in helping ensure the mask makes a proper seal and leaks do not form.
I totally agree that shaving is an absolute must before using the mask. Even if you don’t have the dark 5 oclock shadow, like I do not, it makes all the difference in the world between a tight fit and a leaky mask. After shaving, rince your face completely of all soap and slippery contaminants. This leaves the face with a waxy/clingy feel which accepts a well-cleaned cushion perfectly. It’s a small price we men have to pay, but oh, is it ever worth it.
