HDM Z2 Auto Travel CPAP Review
When it comes to summer travel, the key is to keep your bags light! For those who rely on CPAP therapy for a good night’s sleep, the new HDM Z2 Auto Travel CPAP is an FAA-approved, ultra-small, lightweight addition to your must-pack list. The Z1 Auto Travel CPAP started the travel CPAP evolution with its small, lightweight design and portable battery. The Z2 builds upon that success with an upgraded version combining all the benefits of the original including an improved algorithm for more comfort. Measuring 6.48” x 3.3” x 2.0” and weighing only 10.5 oz, the Z2 can be dropped into your carry-on and forgotten. No more bulky, heavy machines to lug around!

Motor
Building on the design of the Z1, the new machine features an improved, quieter motor. Plus, the Z2 comes with a free Qtube to muffle the noise at the mask.
Auto-Adjusting Pressure
The Z2 uses a proprietary breathing algorithm with a sampling rate of several times per second. As a result, therapy is delivered at a lower overall average pressure than a fixed-pressure CPAP. Plus, the machine will continually adjust the pressure over the course of the night.
Exhalation Pressure Relief
With the Z-breathe technology, the Z2 Travel CPAP machine helps reduce the pressure during exhalation. Users can pick between three settings.
Auto Start/Stop
New to the Z2, the machine features an auto start/stop feature. Therapy begins when the mask is placed on the face and the device senses that you have started to breathe. When the mask is removed or a leak is detected, the machine will automatically stop delivering therapy.
Humidification
The Z2 uses HME (heat moisture exchanger) cartridges that are inserted between the hose and the mask. The HME captures moisture during exhalation and releases it during inhalation, thus offering the comfort of humification without electricity or additional water.

Battery
The Z2 offers an integrated battery option, which is recommended when traveling off-grid or in areas where power may be limited. The PowerShell Extended Life Battery is a rechargeable, lithium-ion battery and provides a full night’s therapy on one charge.
Mask
The Z2 Auto is compatible with any mask or tube.

Integrated battery? What a shame. Are there none that are made to sell extra batteries so you can go off grid while camping for more than a few hours?
The Transcend365 has a battery with the longest run time regarding the Travel CPAP batteries. However, you Can use the Freedom V2 with the Z2 Travel machine or other CPAP Travel machines. https://www.thecpapshop.com/freedom-v2-cpap-battery
Hi Chris, I recently purchased the Z2 Auto CPAP RX ONLY and I need to set the pressure in the range from 4.0 to 6.0 cm H2O. How can I do it? Thank you in advance
Hello, Mr. Anatoly. To adjust the pressure of the Z2 machine we would need a new prescription relecting that pressure range.
Link to printable Breas compliance letter for FAA not working. Can you update your site?
Hello, Nicola. That was From Breas site. If you call 866-767-7400 Ext 105 and provide your email, I would be happy to send you the PDF.
what is the return policy if I buy one and find out it just doesn’t work for me?
Hello, Becky. The HDM Z2 Auto Travel Capap machine has a 30-day return policy that starts from the date you receive the machine.
I am planning some off grid motorcycle travel. Can the battery be recharged off the 13.5 volts my motorcycle charging system puts out? If yes, might you know how many hours it would take to charge off an automotive 12 volt outlet?
Hello, Bob. The Z2 would does not have that ability. May I ask what everyday machine you have?
I have a Resmed 10 Elite. Been using it for about three months.
You could use the Resmed DC Power Converter for the Airsense10 series. However, I would not recommend that because the motorcycle would have to be running while it was changing and may drain the battery. https://www.thecpapshop.com/dc-power-converter-for-airsense-10-series. Another option is to get the freedom battery to use with your Airsense10 (The humidifier would have to be turned to 0, and its not a bad idea to have the side plate cover SKU# 37303 ). The Freedom battery has an Auto Charge DC cable for purchase for $24.00, so you should be able to charge the battery while you are driving during the day. Here is the link for the Freedom battery:https://www.thecpapshop.com/freedom-travel-cpap-battery-bundle. According to the battery run time chart, you should get about 16hr if your pressure is 10cm, with nonheated tubing and the humidifier turned off.
Big concern is the lithium ion battery pack. The FAA has limited the size and rating of these batteries. Has the manufacturer received update (11/2019) clearance by FAA to use such batteries. Additionally has the manufacturer received clearance for use of the battery on international flights since 11/2019?
I am taking a vacation to Europe in March time frame, and use a cpap, but if I can not use a portable one like the HDM Z2 Auto Travel CPAP, then I would not purchase it.
Hello, Jim. Yes, the Z2 battery and PowerShell are FFA cleared. However, according to FAA regulations, you have to bring the battery in your carry-on baggage, it can not be in checked baggage. Traveling internationally with the Z2 and battery would not be an issue. The machine goes from 100 – 240 VAC, which is universal. The only other item you may need would be a travel plug adapter with the different prongs. It was last updated on March 13 2019, but I would imagine they can still take them on an airplane without issues. The manufacturer, Breas has a compliance letter you can print. HDM can be reached at (434)-980-8100.
is this machine compatible with all hoses and masks?
Hello, Becky. No, it is not compatible with any heated hoses. However, you can use any nonheated hoses. It is compatible with any type of mask because the end of the tubes have a 22mm diameter, which is universal.
I use either a BPAP or CPAP, whichever is built for patients with more extreme sleep apnea. Could this portable actually work for me for traveling? I see no way to provide moisture? How does that work?
If you have a prescription of a cpap machine you can use a heat moisture exchanger. The Heat Moisture Exchanger is a sponge device that allows you to use some of the moisture from your breath. If you have an Bipap machine I am afraid the Z2 would not work, and there are currently no travel Bipap machines. The Smallest Bipap machine would be the DeVilbiss Intellipap machine.
