ResMed AirFit N30 Nasal CPAP Mask Review

Adjusting to a nasal mask is one of the biggest hurdles that new CPAP patients face. Discomfort issues often lead to patients abandoning therapy completely. Furthermore, with the new AirFit N30 Nasal CPAP Mask with Headgear, ResMed has introduced a lightweight (weighing only 1.6 lbs!) mask geared entirely to help new patients more easily adapt to CPAP therapy.
What Makes the ResMed N30 Nasal CPAP Mask More Comfortable?
Combining soft silicone materials with an under-the-nose design, the ResMed AirFit N30 gently shapes to the nose for a more comfortable fit. Also, the curved cushion helps alleviate common complaints from new CPAP patients—including nostril soreness, nasal bridge discomfort, and red marks.

Is the ResMed N30 Nasal CPAP Mask Quiet?
For both the new patient as well as the bed partner, adjusting to CPAP therapy means adapting to noisy airflow that may interrupt sleep. The ResMed AirFit N30 uses the ResMed’s QuietAir™ technology, a diffusing vent that breaks up exhaled air to minimize sleep disruptions.
How Comfortable is the Headgear?
Inspired by the ease of swim goggle head bands, the ResMed AirFit N30 headgear features QuickFit™ elastic split banding. In addition, the streamlined design makes it easier to remove headgear when you need to get up in the middle of the night. Therefore, widen the split back straps or use the single-sided clip to make precise adjustments for a perfect fit.
Plus, a low-profile design, the ResMed AirFit N30 offers user a clear view to read in bed or watch TV comfortably.

Who Should Choose the ResMed AirFit N30 Nasal Mask?
⦁ New patients who are adjusting to CPAP therapy for the first time and need a more flexible nasal mask design.
⦁ Side sleepers benefit from the nasal cushion design which offers a more secure seal for different sleeping positions.
⦁ Patients who want to wear their mask while watching TV or reading
⦁ Any patients who find their current nasal mask uncomfortable or too noisy.

ResMed AirFit N30 Nasal Mask – Customer Review
I was very concerned that this mask would irritate my nostrils, as the nasal pillow masks I’ve tried in the past were very uncomfortable due to this. The first night, I struggled for the first 30 minutes to get accustomed to it. – Review by Gman63385
I love this mask! In fact, I love it so much that I ordered a second one to keep in my travel cpap bag so I can easily pick up my bag and go. I first ordered the ResMed n30 a few months ago. The mask is very soft and flexible. – Review by Gigi15
Best mask and headgear ever. Very comfortable, good seal and no lines on my face in the morning. – Review by Izzy
The N30 has minimal head gear and it fits the nose well with really minimal sense that it is there. It is flexible but maintains a good seal on the nose. There are no hard plastic parts. – Review by Diane
Been through almost all of the pillow and nasal masks available and right from night one, I have slept more sound and longer with this new N30. So light you don’t really know it’s there. – Review by Bob in NH

I loved this mask for several months but eventually the elastic strap stretched to the point that during the night it would loosen enough that it would leak around the mask. I would adjust to reseal but with any head movement the leak would reappear. I purchased a new mask and within a month the elastic band has stretched to be 4-5 inches longer than when I bought it. This translates to more leaks. Not happy with this mask.

I have just started with this mask. Have been on CPAP for many years but have never used Nasal cushions. I do not notice the air coming out the vents as I did with my other full nasal masks. I felt for it and actually slept well but wondered why I could not feel the air???
All of the CPAP masks have exhalation ports for the CO2 to be released. However, the exhalation ports can vary in location and how they disperse the exhaled air. On the ResMed Airfit N30 Nasal Mask, you should be able to feel the air coming out from the front of the cushion.
So far this mask is very comfortable, and a nice alternative to my P10 nasal pillow mask. The P10 is great most of the time, but periodically my nostrils get sore and I need to use something else for a while. I got the medium (which is the same size I use in my P10 pillows). It seems to fit great, but as the pressure ramps up I notice a bit of air flow out the top just below my eyes. Should I be using the small cushion instead? I have wide nostrils and I don’t smaller holes which may restricted flow, but the light stream of air into my eyes is a bit annoying. I wish the initial mask had come with a variety to try, since the individual cushions are pretty expensive.
I think this is the most comfortable cushion I have tried, and I have tried many, followed by the AirFit F30. It is also extremely quiet. I use it with a ResMed chin support underneath. However, I think the headgear is BASIC and THIN for the PRICE of the mask, and the single-sided clip is really annoying as it causes irritation on your scalp if you sleep on that side (right). Using Velcro with a thicker elastic band would have been much better. It is a wonderful cushion with a disappointing headgear. Sadly, I think I will go back to the F30. Hope this helps.
Nestor, thank you very much for providing feedback regarding the Airfit N30 mask. Currently, there is no other headgear that will work with that mask. If you are interested in trying a mask that has headgear you can pull over your head without it stretching out, I would recommend looking at the Fisher and Paykel Vitera Full Face mask.
