ResMed AirMini Auto Travel CPAP Troubleshooting Guide

The ResMed AirMini Auto Travel CPAP provides essential therapy for patients with sleep apnea on the go. The ResMed AirMini is a user-friendly travel CPAP machine with features for enhancing sleep comfort while away from home.

This device offers the benefit of auto-adjusting pressure settings to help some patients adjust more easily to CPAP therapy as well as AutoRamp and expiratory pressure relief. If any issues arise with the ResMed AirMini use the following troubleshooting guide to find a solution before contacting a technician.

Common Problems & Solutions - ResMed AirMini Auto Travel CPAP

Leakage of Air from Mask

Cause

If you notice air leaking from around the CPAP mask, your mask may not be fitted correctly or the AirMini system may be assembled incorrectly. Proper CPAP mask fitting ensures that there are no leaks and that all seals are secure. A leaky mask means the reduced performance of your CPAP machine, which can impact your CPAP therapy.

If the ResMed AirMini is not set up properly, leaks can occur. Tube connections and CPAP mask connections that are loose can result in leaks.

Solution

Ensure that the CPAP mask is fitted correctly. Refer to your CPAP mask user guide for fitting instructions or perform the mask fit function using the AirMIni app to check your CPAP mask fit and seal. If successful you should not experience any more leaks.

If the mask is fitted correctly, review the machine assembly. Make sure the AirMIni system is assembled correctly. Refer to your AirMini user guide for information on setting up your AirMini machine.

Unable To Start the Therapy

ResMed AirMini Auto Travel CPAP

Cause

If you try to begin CPAP therapy and there is no response from the CPAP machine, you may have a power problem. The power sources may not be connected, either the power cord to the CPAP machine or the power cord to an electrical outlet.

Ensure that the electrical outlet you are using is also working. Try a different outlet to ensure that you have adequate power. If power appears to be working, and the CPAP machine is still not operative, you may need to seek the help of a technician.

Solution

Connect the power supply unit and ensure that the plug is fully inserted. Loose connections may appear to be connected but are not. The green indicator light on the power supply unit should be illuminated. Ensure that the green indicator light above the Start/Stop button on the AirMini machine is also illuminated.

If power sources and power connections are all checked and the green indicator light is not coming on, then you may need to seek the help of a technician.

Low Air Pressure

Cause

If you are experiencing low air pressure, there may be several reasons for the problem. Your ramp may be in progress which means that air pressure will vary. This is a normal function of the ResMed AirMini and not a defect.

The HumidX or vent might be blocked. The ResMed HumidX and HumidX Plus systems are completely waterless. They are designed to use the moisture in the air and to provide a solution to dryness caused by breathing pressurized air. If the HumidX is blocked it may result in a lower air pressure. Also the vent that draws air may be locked resulting in lower air pressure.

The HumidX may also be still wet from recent use. The moisture will cause lower air pressure.

The moisture

Solution

For Ramp issues, use the AirMini app to confirm that the Ramp Time comfort feature has been enabled. If so, wait for air pressure to build up or turn off the Ramp Time feature using the AirMini app.

For HumidiX issues, Inspect the HumidX and vent for blockages or damage. Refer to your AirMini user guide for information on cleaning and maintenance. The HumidX should be dry when starting therapy. Determine whether the HumidX is wet and replace it if necessary.

Dryness

Cause

If the air you are breathing through the CPAP mask is exceptionally dry, it is possible that your mask is not fitted correctly. An ill-fitting CPAP mask can cause many problems with airflow and air quality. It is important to ensure that your mask is fitted properly to your face.

It is also possible that you need humidification for your CPAP therapy. If you are susceptible to the dryness of the airflow, you may require moistened air as part of your CPAP therapy to stay comfortable.

Solution

Adjust and refit your mask to improve the seal. Ensure that no air is leaking from it. Refer to your mask user guide for fitting instructions or perform the mask fit function using the AirMini app to check your mask fit and seal.

If your mask fit is good, try the HumidX Plus feature available with your ResMed AirMini. HumidX Plus will provide the humidification you need to make the airflow less dry and more comfortable.

Uncomfortable Water Droplets on Mask, Nose, or in Air Tubing

Water Droplets

Cause

If you notice water droplets forming on the CPAP mask, around your nose in the tubing of your ResMed AirMini, then your humidity setting for the HumidX may be too high. Higher settings of the HumidX can cause condensation, which will result in water droplet formation throughout the ResMed AirMini system.

Excessive condensation can be uncomfortable and also lead to sanitary issues such as mold, bacteria, and germs growing in the CPAP mask and tubing.

Solution

If you are using the HumidX, remove it and try therapy without humidification.

If you are using the HumidX Plus, try the HumidX instead. This will help to reduce the water droplets. You may need to use the HumidX or HumidX Plus when ambient humidity conditions change. When temperatures are cooler outside the ResMed AirMIni system, it may cause rainout or the formation of condensation within the tubing and mask. Adjusting humidity levels to surrounding conditions can help reduce the instances of rainouts.

If you still experience problems, contact your provider.

Unable to Pair the Machine

Cause

If you are having trouble pairing your ResMed AirMini with your phone then your Bluetooth may be disabled on your phone. You may also check to see if the AirMini machine appears in the device list on your phone. Most failures to pair are due to failures in Bluetooth connectivity between the ResMed and the phone.

Like most electronic devices, Bluetooth on your ResMed AirMini needs to find a successful match with a corresponding device before it can connect.

Solution

Press the Bluetooth button on your AirMini machine for at least 3 seconds. When the Bluetooth indicator light flashes blue, then the machine is ready for pairing.

If you see the ResMed AirMini on the device list of your phone, tap the device name in the device list to confirm that you want to connect to that machine. You should be able to gain a connection.

If connection attempts continue to fail you can contact ResMed customer service to walk you through finding a connection.

Improper Bluetooth Light Indicator Light Signal

Cause

If the Bluetooth indicator light on your AirMini machine is constantly white, it means you still do not have a successful Bluetooth connection. Check the Bluetooth setting on your phone to ensure that Bluetooth is enabled. You may also check to see if the AirMini machine appears in the device list on your phone. Most failures to pair are due to failures in Bluetooth connectivity between the ResMed and the phone.
