Upon its release in mid-2014, The CPAP Shop provided a ResMed AirSense 10 AutoSet CPAP Machine to Brandon Peters, MD, for review. Dr. Peters is a board-certified neurology sleep medicine specialist who currently practices at Pulmonary and Sleep Associates of Marin in Novato, CA and serves as a consulting assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Stanford University School of Medicine.

After several weeks of testing the ResMed AirSense 10 CPAP machine, Dr. Peters sat down with Chris Vasta, vice president of operations at The CPAP Shop, to answer a few questions.

Benefits of Using ResMed AirSense 10 CPAP Machine

With ResMed’s integrated heated humidification system, users will experience improved comfort during CPAP therapy. Users have the ability to adjust the humidification to a level of their choosing to optimize comfort. The addition of the ClimateLine heated tubing unlocks the potential of the machine’s climate control setting—allowing users to control the temperature of the air pressure they receive.

Disadvantages of Using ResMed AirSense 10 CPAP Machine

Some users have cited the built-in humidifier and removable water chamber as a disadvantage to the ResMed AirSense 10, as it adds to the machine’s footprint. If you do not currently use a humidifier with your CPAP machine and are looking at the AirSense 10, learning how to adjust or turn off the humidifier settings will be key. Additionally, a side plate cover can be purchased to replace the water chamber which further reduces the size of the machine.

Can You Use with a Humidifier?

The ResMed AirSense 10 AutoSet CPAP machine comes with a built-in humidifier that cannot be removed. If you do not wish to use the humidifier it can be turned off or a side plate cover can be purchased.

Maintenance

The ResMed AirSense 10 CPAP machine uses air filters to block dirt and larger particles from entering your machine, allowing you to breathe clean air. These filters should be replaced approximately every six months or until damaged, per the manufacturer.

Never wet these filters and be sure to check them regularly.

Noise Level

The ResMed AirSense 10 operates at a volume of 27 dBA. This is slightly quieter than a whisper.

Ease of Use

The ResMed AirSense 10 features a backlit, LCD screen with full-color menus. The built-in ambient light technology adjusts the brightness of the screen based on the amount of light in the room. The simple dial helps users navigate menus, while therapy can be started and stopped with the press of a button. This device is extremely intuitive and user-friendly.
