Using the SoClean 2 CPAP Sanitizing Machine

October 27, 2016 | CPAP Reviews & Ratings |

The CPAP Shop explains how the SoClean2 CPAP cleaner allows you to eliminate mask wipes and sanitize your CPAP equipment to be 99.9% bacteria-free!

The machine works with most CPAP machines and masks, and no water is needed. When you use the SoClean to sanitize your CPAP mask, tubing and reservoir, you do not have to disassemble the mask, tubing and humidifier. Instead of water, it uses activated oxygen to sanitize the mask, hose, and reservoir.

Using the SoClean 2

To do this, you simply connect the SoClean 2 to the back of your CPAP and place the mask inside the SoClean, with the tubing hooked to an adapter that is connected to your CPAP machine. Set the timer, and the SoClean makes a low humming sound for about 10 minutes until the cycle is finished.

The SoClean 2 cleans and sanitizes your CPAP mask and equipment.

SoClean 2 Uses Activated Oxygen to Clean

The machine works by pushing activated oxygen through the tubing and adapter, inside the reservoir of the CPAP machine, and then back to the SoClean 2 machine. The mask, tubing, and reservoir are cleaned along the way.

Activated oxygen kills bacteria, mold, virus, and fungus. When the machine adds a third atom of oxygen to the O2 oxygen that we breathe, it forms a new molecule of ozone (O3), otherwise known as activated oxygen, that destroys bacteria and viruses through oxidation.

After about two hours, the O3 reverts back into O2. The very first time you use your SoClean 2, you should pre-wash your mask, hose, and reservoir using the included Neutralizing Pre-Wash. Any time you add new equipment to your CPAP therapy, you should use the pre-wash on it.

How Often Should You Use Your SoClean2?

It is recommended that at a minimum, you clean your CPAP machine weekly. The SoClean2 can be used daily to help reduce bacteria build-up. SoClean 2 is so easy that you can increase your cleaning frequency to prevent illness and infection.

Maintaining Your SoClean2

To remove dust, you may wipe down the SoClean 2 with a damp cloth. The SoClean check valve assembly and filter cartridge should be replaced every 6 months. A reminder message on the display will appear after approximately 6 months, depending upon usage.

Is So Clean approved by FDA?

    • Chris Vasta

The FDA has not approved any ozone or UV light CPAP cleaners or sanitizers devices and is currently working with manufacturers to compile data for a full FDA review on efficacy and safety. SoClean has indicated that it has been working cooperatively with the FDA since last year to go through the extensive testing process.

Can I use my so clean machine to sanitize my cloth face masks too? (COVID kind)

  • David Salomon

If I buy this, do I need to clean the CPAP stuff every week anymore, or does this substitute for that cleaning?

    • Chris Vasta

Indeed, it is recommended to maintain your normal cleaning schedule. The devices can sanitize but they do not have the ability to remove any physical properties like oil or dirt.

My SoClean 2 used to make a noise when I first turned on the cleaning, but it stopped. The messages and lights still say it is going through the cleaning process. I don’t think it is. Is this a compressor issue?

    • Chris Vasta

The Soclean is supposed to make a humming noise white it produces the Ozone. On the Soclean Site it states: “The SoClean 2 runs a 7-minute cycle plus a 2 hour rest period. This ensures proper maintenance of the equipment and the rest period allows the Activated Oxygen (ozone) to convert back into regular oxygen”.

I replaced the filters as soon as machine started to blink colors. The machine still continues to blink color bar at bottom. says change filter. Whats the problem???

    • Chris Vasta

To make the lights stop blinking you need to hold down the manual button and Hourglass button simultaneously for about 5 seconds until you get a smiley face, which indicates it has been reset.

I was told by a cpap tech that Res Med Would void warranty on my cpap machine if I used a so clean machine because it breaks down the seals in the cpap machine. Is this true

    • Chris Vasta

      ResMed’s Official Statement:
“Effective for sales of ResMed machines on or after February 1, 2020, ResMed’s limited warranty will exclude damage to ResMed ResMed’s Official Statement: “machines caused by use of ozone devices. The limited warranty on ResMed masks, with the exception of ResMed AirTouch™ products, will not be affected.” Currently, Resmed is the only Manufacturer that has made this change to their warranty policy. Soclean has stated that any ResMed AirSense 10 that was purchased on or after February 1, 2020, determined to be caused by Ozone, SoClean will cover the cost to repair the AirSense 10 during the initial two year warranty period of the AirSense 10, and for an additional year.

If I use a SoClean to clean my CPAP every day, do I still need to replace all the water in the humidifier with fresh every day too?

    • Chris Vasta

It would still be the best practice to continue changing the water as recommended by the manufacturer of the machine. Resmed recommends washing the water chamber weekly with warm water and a gentle detergent.

What is wrong with your so clean when the red, green, and yellow keep flashing!

    • Chris Vasta

When the Soclean flashes the red, green an yellow lights that is how it indicates it is time to change the filter.
