Using the SoClean 2 CPAP Sanitizing Machine

October 27, 2016 | CPAP Reviews & Ratings |

The CPAP Shop explains how the SoClean2 CPAP cleaner allows you to eliminate mask wipes and sanitize your CPAP equipment to be 99.9% bacteria-free!

The machine works with most CPAP machines and masks, and no water is needed. When you use the SoClean to sanitize your CPAP mask, tubing and reservoir, you do not have to disassemble the mask, tubing and humidifier. Instead of water, it uses activated oxygen to sanitize the mask, hose, and reservoir.

Using the SoClean 2

To do this, you simply connect the SoClean 2 to the back of your CPAP and place the mask inside the SoClean, with the tubing hooked to an adapter that is connected to your CPAP machine. Set the timer, and the SoClean makes a low humming sound for about 10 minutes until the cycle is finished.

The SoClean 2 cleans and sanitizes your CPAP mask and equipment.

SoClean 2 Uses Activated Oxygen to Clean

The machine works by pushing activated oxygen through the tubing and adapter, inside the reservoir of the CPAP machine, and then back to the SoClean 2 machine. The mask, tubing, and reservoir are cleaned along the way.

Activated oxygen kills bacteria, mold, virus, and fungus. When the machine adds a third atom of oxygen to the O2 oxygen that we breathe, it forms a new molecule of ozone (O3), otherwise known as activated oxygen, that destroys bacteria and viruses through oxidation.

After about two hours, the O3 reverts back into O2. The very first time you use your SoClean 2, you should pre-wash your mask, hose, and reservoir using the included Neutralizing Pre-Wash. Any time you add new equipment to your CPAP therapy, you should use the pre-wash on it.

How Often Should You Use Your SoClean2?

It is recommended that at a minimum, you clean your CPAP machine weekly. The SoClean2 can be used daily to help reduce bacteria build-up. SoClean 2 is so easy that you can increase your cleaning frequency to prevent illness and infection.

Maintaining Your SoClean2

To remove dust, you may wipe down the SoClean 2 with a damp cloth. The SoClean check valve assembly and filter cartridge should be replaced every 6 months. A reminder message on the display will appear after approximately 6 months, depending upon usage.

Question I was given a SoClean 2 by a friend who had 2. Issue is it is missing the black tubing that remind from the So Clean to the CPAP. I have ordered the adapter and injection tube but can’t find a replacement for the long tube. Where can I get that. Checked the SoClean site but didn’t find it!

    • Chris Vasta

Hi Rita! Unfortunately, I don’t think that part is available for separate purchase, as it comes with the machine during the initial purchase. You can try calling SoClean directly for more information; (800)747-1030

Is it ok to have water in your reservoir when sanitizing with so clean 2?

    • Chris Vasta

Hello, Darlene. According to “If you have water in your reservoir, the tube needs to be submerged in order to get the activated oxygen to clean the water. However, you can also run the SoClean without water in the reservoir”

I keep my mask out of the SoClean machine (after sanitizing), for about 3-4 hours since I put it on in another room so as not to disturb my wife. Does it still remain sanitized, or, do I need to keep the mask in SoClean until I’m ready to use it.

    • Chris Vasta

Hello, Sam. I am afraid that once you take it out of the controlled environment of the Soclean chamber it could have impurities from the surroundings come into contact with the mask causing it no longer be sanitized. That being said, if you are using the soclean on a regular basis, as long as you are moving it into an clean environment you should still be okay.

My wife and I have the same CPAP machine and the same mask (nasal pillow mask). Both masks fit in the SoClean at the same time. Can they be sanitized together. If so how would the black tubing be configured. Thank you

    • Chris Vasta

Hello, Joe. Indeed, it is not a problem to sanitize both masks at the same time. Anything inside of the SoClean2 chamber will be sanitized. You would not change anything with the set up. However, you would not be able to set up two cpap machines simultaneously.

My cpap got turned on while the so clean was in the yellow phase. I don’t think it was more than a few minutes at most. Do I need to worry about damage to either machine?

    • Chris Vasta

Hello, Brittany. There is no need for concern. It will not cause harm to either machine. If you would like to check with the manufacturer, Better Rest Solutions can be reached at :1 866-501-3705

I use my soclean machine daily with my cpap machine. I have the heated tubing but I get mold in the reservoir. I do not empty the water out daily prior to cleaning because the instructions do not indicate that it’s necessary. Is this a necessary step to avoid the mold I’m seeing in the reservoir?

    • Chris Vasta

It is recommended to use distilled water in your CPAP humidifier, but if you’ve been using tap or spring water, you may notice a white film left behind. This film would be mineral deposits left from the tap water, which can be detrimental to the functioning of your cpap machine. Most people fill their machine reservoir completely, and use the humidifier until the water is used up. Once there water chamber is empty, rinse it out with warm water and a gentle soap, before refilling it with distilled water. It is necessary to continue cleaning all of the cpap equipment, even with the incorporation of the Soclean2 sanitizing machine.

Do you need to occasionally wash the tube and mask occasionally if I use the so clean machine every day?

    • Chris Vasta

Hello, Vince. Indeed, it is still recommended to wash your cpap equipment, even with the incorporation of the Soclean2 machine. The soclean2 machine will sanitize but it does not have the ability to clean. Thus, there will still be dirt and oil remaining.

  • Harry & Williams

No low humming noise when it start cleaning. Why?

    • Chris Vasta

Hello, Harry. It only has a humming noise for the first few minutes. However, if you still have concerns regarding the functioning of your Soclean2 machine I would recommend reaching out to Better Rest Solutions, the manufacturer of the Soclean2 machine. The manufacturer prefers to handle technical issue directly. They can be reached at 1 (866)-501-3705.
