Using the SoClean 2 CPAP Sanitizing Machine

October 27, 2016 | CPAP Reviews & Ratings |

The CPAP Shop explains how the SoClean2 CPAP cleaner allows you to eliminate mask wipes and sanitize your CPAP equipment to be 99.9% bacteria-free!

The machine works with most CPAP machines and masks, and no water is needed. When you use the SoClean to sanitize your CPAP mask, tubing and reservoir, you do not have to disassemble the mask, tubing and humidifier. Instead of water, it uses activated oxygen to sanitize the mask, hose, and reservoir.

Using the SoClean 2

To do this, you simply connect the SoClean 2 to the back of your CPAP and place the mask inside the SoClean, with the tubing hooked to an adapter that is connected to your CPAP machine. Set the timer, and the SoClean makes a low humming sound for about 10 minutes until the cycle is finished.

The SoClean 2 cleans and sanitizes your CPAP mask and equipment.

SoClean 2 Uses Activated Oxygen to Clean

The machine works by pushing activated oxygen through the tubing and adapter, inside the reservoir of the CPAP machine, and then back to the SoClean 2 machine. The mask, tubing, and reservoir are cleaned along the way.

Activated oxygen kills bacteria, mold, virus, and fungus. When the machine adds a third atom of oxygen to the O2 oxygen that we breathe, it forms a new molecule of ozone (O3), otherwise known as activated oxygen, that destroys bacteria and viruses through oxidation.

After about two hours, the O3 reverts back into O2. The very first time you use your SoClean 2, you should pre-wash your mask, hose, and reservoir using the included Neutralizing Pre-Wash. Any time you add new equipment to your CPAP therapy, you should use the pre-wash on it.

How Often Should You Use Your SoClean2?

It is recommended that at a minimum, you clean your CPAP machine weekly. The SoClean2 can be used daily to help reduce bacteria build-up. SoClean 2 is so easy that you can increase your cleaning frequency to prevent illness and infection.

Maintaining Your SoClean2

To remove dust, you may wipe down the SoClean 2 with a damp cloth. The SoClean check valve assembly and filter cartridge should be replaced every 6 months. A reminder message on the display will appear after approximately 6 months, depending upon usage.

My mask has a funny smell to it after the 4th day of use. I sanitize my mask everyday? Why?

    • Chris Vasta

The soclean2 machine uses activated ozone to sanitize. What you are smelling is like the sent of the ozone. It may help if you let the mask rest outside of the Soclean for awhile before using it.

Do I empty the water out of the chamber before I hook up the soclean

    • Charlene Cowan

Also when the yellow light goes off then I can take my mask and hose out of it

      • Chris Vasta

No, you would not want to remove the items from the Soclean machine when the light turns yellow. The yellow light means that the machine is going though the sanitizing process. When the light turns green you are good to take out the mask.

Hello, Carlene. While it is not required to remove the water, it is recommended to remove the water from the water chamber while using the Soclean. It may be beneficial to put fresh water in daily.

I have been given conflicting information about ozone and how often to run my SoClean. Someone in my house died from lung cancer 16 years ago. The Health Department told me to stop using the ozone air cleaner I was using 24/7. I want to ensure my lungs are not exposed to ozone. I was told by one SoClean prep that the unit does not use Ozone, but everything else I’ve read says it does. How can I eliminate or minimize ozone exposure to my lungs? Also, how often should I run my SoClean? I have seen both daily and weekly recommended. Thank you.

Hi Laurie, please read the following reply directly from SoClean.com – “Activated oxygen, also called ozone or O3 occurs in nature. It is produced and used commercially in applications for sanitizing produce, waste and drinking water. The SoClean is designed to keep the activated oxygen enclosed in your CPAP equipment and the secure chamber. And, when the sanitizing process is complete, the ozone turns back into regular oxygen.”

Hi. Do i have to remove the adapter on the humidifier and replace it with the original cover before using the cpap after cleaning?

  • Linda

I use oxygen through my cpap machine…must I disconnect that while running SoClean?

    • Chris Vasta

I would recommend disconnecting the oxygen, because sanitizers aren’t cleared for use with oxygen supplies. You could just disconnect the o2 tube from the bleed adapter or however its connected.

Do I need to remove the head gear from the mask before using the So Clean

    • Chris Vasta

Hi Janet, you can keep the headgear on your mask when using the SoClean.

My husband’s so clean machine began running during the night while he was wearing his CPAP. He thinks it may have run the full cycle. When he awoke and reached to turn it off, it cut off automatically. Could his lungs have been damaged?

        • Chris Vasta

Hello, Susan. That is most particular. I am afraid I am able to advise on that. I would recommend reaching out to the manufacturer to troubleshoot. The manufacture of the Soclean is Better Rest Solutions and they can be reached at (508) 363.0415.

when I replace my hose , and full face mask every six months , do I need to pre-wash them before placing them in my soclean 2 sanitizer

  • Barbara

I only use my cpap machine and SoClean 2 when I am at the cottage. (I have a complete system at home I use) How do I make sure it doesn’t run when I am not using it at the cottage?

    • Chris Vasta

Hi Barbara, you can unplug the SoClean when not in use. It will not damage the equipment. If you unplug the SoClean or experience a power loss, you will need to reset the current time only. The disinfecting settings will remain saved.
